Canada's New Government Announces Investment to Help Seniors Enjoy a Better Quality of Life

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 1, 2007) - The Honourable Marjory LeBreton, Leader of the Government in the Senate and Secretary of State (Seniors), today on the International Day of Older Persons, made an announcement that builds on the work of Canada's New Government to improve the lives of seniors.

As announced in Budget 2007, $10 milllion in funding is going to be made available soon to Canadian seniors groups who want to develop public awareness and education projects that combat elder abuse and fraud, and upgrade community buildings and equipment used by seniors.

A call for proposals will be announced in November to let seniors and seniors groups know how they can apply for funding, which is available under the New Horizons for Seniors Program. Information will become available at http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/audiences/seniors/ or by contacting a local member of Parliament.
